It has been said before but but it must be said again!

Simon Jarvis of PSI3 installed my S.E.C.S. ECU Monitor S1004 with the Subaru Pod on 07 March 03, it was my birthday present from "Her Who Shall Be Obeyed"

If you have an STi7, or the ugly 8(1), then you MUST fit one of these. EVERY SCOOBY ON THE PLANET SHOULD HAVE ONE

As far as I know it is currently OBD 2 Compliant.

PSI3 are planning to enhance the monitors to display oil temp & pressure.

Been reading up on these. I see they tell max knock correction - but does it record highest correction encountered ?

What a coincidence, just this second had a e-mail from PSi3
Yes we now supply a Oil pressure/Oil temperature sensor kit to work with our
units, the cost of the kit including all fittings, sensors etc.. is £170 + vat
Looks like they've just sold another unit

Stop rubbing my face in it, I've wanted one of these since January and can't have one because they don't fit the earlier cars yet.

Please PSI3, make us early owners happy, I have cash, can you smell it? Look, crisp, fresh bank notes!!

I'm still not sure whether to invest in the SECS for my 7, or get the deltadash software.

I'm by no means a techie head when it comes to cars, but want something that is informative.

I've heard that the SECS can do datalogging to a laptop ? is this true, or a future upgrade.

Deltadash is obviously cheaper, but SECS is a lot cooler to look at, and from what I can see does display the same info ?

Looking for advice before I part with my hard earned money....

Hmmmm, now I have 2 questions:

1) Does the SECS measure maximum knock correction encountered.
2) Does it show the boost the ECU thinks the car is running -
or the actual boost as measured by a boost gauge ?

The S.E.C.S. only reads what the ECU sees (exception will be the seperate Oil temp/pressure sensors).

So if you're running a MBC with increased boost, then the S.E.C.S. will under read.

A re-vamped web-site will be appearing soon, with details of other manufacturer fitment and MOTEC support, the sensor packs, etc...

Keep an eye on www.psi3.co.uk

Question

Is there a problem with ECU boost readings? Most MAP sensors have accuracy within 2%.

I know on a Prodrive car, if the boost guage reads 1.1 bar, then the ECU is seeing 0.95 bar.

Cool

Does that mean that my 1.27 bar peak according to SECS is actually 1.3 or more?

The offset only applies to the fuel cut defender type PPPs which are the earlier WRX and STi type UK PPPs.

Yeah I think ECU boost is only dodgy if there's an electronic device used to intercept the MAP signal going to the ECU to fool it into running more boost like the old PPP John mentions and possibly the Unichips?

With a MBC the boost reading should still be correct cos the ECU is still seeing the MAP reading correctly it just can't adjust the boost via the boost solenoid as per standard setup.

Would I be correct in saying the ECU boost reading is more accurate than 90% of the aftermarket gauges which tend to under-read? Certainly my ECU boost reading is higher than the mechanical gauge I have plumbed onto the inlet manifold.

My boost reading on the secs is accurate up to 1 bar where the signal is then clamped , so refer to the direct boost guage thats fitted.

Mine is an 01 WRX with PPP. The ECU reads 0.95 bar and the guage 1.1 bar. But this SECS 3 thing still sounds good.

Yeah , I am running a Unichip , so thats the reason.

The SECS is superb , looks OEM in the dash top pod and gives lovely digital read outs of the important stuff like Oil Pressure/Temp/Coolant, Knock

Well worth the money. Infact I sold all my existing gauges and was still quids in!!!!!!
