E.C.U experts information please.

Hi folks,
Just fitted a AE801 into my MY00 and "WOW" what a difference i am well chuffed. I belive that these E.C.U s can take some mileage to bed in properly, is this why my idol is very eratic at the moment, it is up and down to about 1500rpm and almost stalling but not quite. The performance in itself seems lots better i just hope it isn't in my head, like some mods can be.
Any advise would be appreciated.
Cheers James.

Changing an ECU can unmask an existing fault which manifests itself as a poor idle. It has happened a few times with postal ECUs I've sent out - obviously the new ECU gets the blame until the owner reinstalls their original one and the same happens. Suddenly the idle goes off. I reckon the old ECU learns around lambda and MAF faults to some degree and resetting it (or removing it and replacing it with another one which is the same thing) uncovers the fault big time.
Check your lambda and MAF sensors.

Thanks for the quick reply John, but you have got me worried now. Should this e.c.u (eratic idleing) not be doing this at all even when bedding in, how do i check the lamda and maf sensors? I can't go to my dealer and say what i have done as i'm still under warranty.
Should i just stick the AE802 back in to be safe?
Cheers James.

I don't see why you can't go back to your dealer. You have replaced one Subaru OE part with another Subaru OE part. Subaru made plenty of cars in the exact same spec as yours is now, so why would there be no warranty.
Ditto what John said.

Hi,
What John has said is very true. The ECU can, to a certain extent, "learn" around faults such as faulty MAF sensors and lambada sensors.
I had a faulty MAF sensor and the car would hunt on idle after a ECU reset. After a hundred or so miles it would settle down, however if ever I disconnected the battery the problem would come back.
I eventually changed the MAF sensor and all's well.
You need to find someone with a DeltaDash monitor and check the ECU for fault codes. You can also take the car to the dealer who can use the Subaru Select Monitor to "see" the fault codes and tell you the problem.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the advise everyone, but if i take it to the dealer as it is now with the AE801 do i need to tell them it is in or will the subaru select monitor realise this itself. What i am afraid of is having the AE801 in and them thinking there is a AE802 in and they can't find the problem. Or will the monitor suss out for itself which e.c.u is in the car.
Thanks for your help John i have great respect fot your word as everone on here shows, was just after a few more ideas.
Cheers everyone,
James

No it is very easy. Put the 802 in, no one will be the wiser and get the dealer to sort the problem with the car, then fit your 801. However, if you left the 801 in they probably wouldn't bat an eyelid or even know what version it should have
