Does anyone know about manual boost controllers (eg the XS Turbo controller), are they worth while, which is a good one and what is a safe boost to go to with a factory ECU?.

I use a GBE Manual Boost controller (you can see the advert in Scoobyshop). Now I know the chap that makes these gizmos but I can honestly say that having removed a unichip and now running standard ECU I have the boost controller set to 13 psi and the car runs very very well indeed ( I have a MY93 WRX). The spool up of the turbo is quicker and having checked the boost gauge it holds boost very very well. No spiking all in all worth having. As I say I am not trying to advertise for the the guy concerned I am just speaking from experience.

hope this helps.

I think they are about £25 on scoobyshop, they are really easy to fit although it might be an idea to get it setup on a RR to get it running spot on, but it's not really essential...

Well Greeno - lets just say that I don't think the unichip was mapped correctly to the boost controller. Having removed the unichip I now find the car has far better low down pull which is where I want it I have however lost a bit of top end - but I'm not bothered about that I mean on most twisty roads top speed is not really all that counts is it I much prefer to use the low to mid torque range.....

As for setting up the boost controllers - well the GBE comes with all the setup instructions believe me they are not difficult and given the fact that my scoob is now running oem ecu with the boost controller set to 13psi - I can honestly say that the RR setup isn't really required.

As for the acutal Unichip Greeno - I have sold it to the 620TI man - tbh the car feels better without the chip so this is the way I'm gonna leave it.

Oh yea Dump btw I have a spare boost gauge for sale if you are interested - and no I didn't get the gauge as part of the deal. The GBE controller is though in my opinion very good value for money and I am very pleased with the results.
