Just bought my 2004 Impreza WRX wagon, and I've noticed a smell similar to burning rubber coming from the engine after a long drive. Engine temp is normal, car seems to be performing just fine, belts seem to be okay. Is this just the smell of a new engine getting broken in, or should I take it back to the dealer? I'm a total newbie as far as cars in general are concerned, so any help is much appreciated!

Cheers,

The exhaust parts may have that preserving ****e on them which is starting to stink when it gets hot, as its a new car so not a problem. However, just to be on the safe side and to cover your ****, get your dealer to take a look to be sure.

I get that after a fast motorway drive. It is definitely exhaust sealant getting very hot, doesn't seem to matter how old your exhaust is - doesn't seem to go away.
