do they use the original ECU and remap that? or is there a visible difference?
MY99, original ECU = insurance friendly
also, what could be expected with a full DeCat, K&N panel and a remap?

They reflash the original ECU but when Subaru, etc plug in their diagnostic equipment it reports as normal

I'd concur with that, it takes a standard scooby and (when used with decat, etc) turns it into near supercar fast. Mines hits 100 from standstill in about 12.5-13s (derived from 13.4 1/4m @ 104mph an also accelerometre results). A quick scan through a autocar and you'll see this is enough to keep up with some pretty tasty exotics and it feels it too.

I don't think I could have ever been satisfied with a standard turbo but the way my car thumps you down the road is brilliant and if I'm being really honest I'd have to say that its fast enough. Not that I'd turn down a big turbo and front mount if I had the option

Question

sorry to hijack this thread as mods are new to me .

i have just got a H&S downpipe and centre section which will be fitted to my MY00 wagon which has a PI prodrive backbox all ready on what BHP will this give ?

my next stage when i get paid again will be either the Tec 2.5 or TEC 3 i will probably go for the 3 again what BHP will this give ?

what will the increase in performance eg 0-60 or is it really mid range performance that i will notice the difference ?

do i need a boost guage fitted before the TEC 3 and do i need a knocklink/lambra what are these ? i intend to keep the car a few years can it do the engine long term harm ?

sorry for all the basic questions

Tek3......on a my 00 will give around 280-290 bhp with a full system.

No need for a boost gauge, no need for lamda/knock link - unless of course you want them.

Mapping takes about an hour or so....

Cost roughly Ģ650 plus vat

Lord Harding

The best man for this work in your area is John Banks. John is located just over the border but has a wealth of experience with 99/00 EcuTek mapping.

Drop him a mail at johnbanks@dsl.pipex.com

I think it will take longer than an hour.

So its looking good, what about the visual thing, is it the original ECU mapped, so if my friendly insura-narc wants a stair, will it fool him/her, i know its bad not to declare but the chip is the one they load to f*ck, bad enough declaring an exhaust and filter.

Thanks again guys
Andy.....

Physcally its the same ECU, you never even need to look at it as the port the computer plugs into is under the steering wheel. Electronically it reports as a normal MY99/00 ecu

The only thing to watch out for is if anyone checks what boost you are running. The Tek3 look identical to the std map, but it's obviously running a bit more than 12psi. You've got to ask what the chances are of an Insurance investigator checking that.

Given that they'll check what you had for breakfast then I'd say pretty good

I thought that TEK3 made a better job of whats available, ie ignition and fuelling for the mods on the car, and possibly they can extract a little something because i always run on optipiss and as a last resort SUL(when shell not available).
also, question for Pete Croney and Xtreme zx3RR
the increase in BHP is obviously good for the bar room drag strip challange, but what will be the potential increase in LB/FT? which I believe is where the action is at.
So looking at the potential for 270/80/90 BHP with full decat and remap, should be standard P1/STI territory (although they never are std are they )
thanks guys, your advice has (as always) proved invaluable...

A decat and tek3 should be about P1 quick Mines certainly is, possibly even a fraction faster (we're talking bawhairs)
