***Tek 2.5 Transplant***
#1
I would appreciate some advice from the technically gifted among us regarding a John Banks Tek 2.5.
Basically I just bought a Tek 2.5 from kevperth, nice one mate The remap was intended for a full decat and a induction kit.
What I would like to know is, would it be safe to transplant the new ecu into a car with just a decat centre section, backbox and itg panel filter or should I decat the down pipe as well.
Also is it wise to fit a knocklink with above mods. I’m a bit worried about knock and over boast.
And last but not least is it wise to get somebody like John to check the cars running OK once I’ve installed the new ecu.
Thanks in advance for all your advise BigE

Yeah it will be ok to run this ECU, the fact you haven't changed the d/p cat means you certainly won't be under fueling.
Only thing i can think of which someone with more knowledge than me (not difficult) might be able to answer is will there be issues with the cat getting to hot/ being too restrictive given the increased boost the ECU is allowing the turbo to run to.
Best person to contact is John himself.

I've tested it on several cars with your setup and all were fine. Re the cat - I've not made it any leaner than the leanest standard ECU, plus the timing is careful, so it is OK.
Knocklink is always a good idea - mainly to detect mechanical/sensor calamities. Boost gauge is essential - some cars overboost more than others before the ECU - at standard boost levels an overboost is not so much a problem. With a tuned ECU we need to set a limit somewhere. You don't really want to see over 1.2 bar or 17.4 PSI on your setup.

Thank you very much for taking the time to reply, especially John
One last thing is the Tek 2.5 mapped for 97-98 RON and should I get caught short which octane boaster do you recommend.

Yes it is OK on SUL. I have tested it on NUL on one car only - the ECU applied knock correction and it ran safely, but I can't confidently say all would be well on all cars. I like NF octane booster.

Just to be clear, Kev's ECU is a standard postal map and is not custom mapped for an induction kit, but can accommodate a K&N 57i. Big E you have email about the exact specifications of car this ECU has been tested with, but as I said it includes your spec.
