Question

With aircon on Auto, and temp at 20ish degrees, suffering loss of power. It's really noticeable pulling away, changing up, accelerating uphill etc. If I switch aircon off Auto, or off altogether, the increase in oomph is really surprising

Is this 'normal'? I've spoken to another 02 Sport owner who has also experienced this. Any solutions, or will the dealers tell us it's something we have to live with! And no, I can't afford a turbo model just yet lol

It isn't just the Sport...all cars with air conditioning lose some power to run the compressor. When that cuts in it adds extra load to the engine. Even on my P1 it is noticeable, just less so where the power required is the same (estimate 10bhp?), but to me it is less in percentage terms to the Sport with 115-125bhp. I still wouldn't be without it though.

Regards

Steve

Thanks Steve

So, I just neet to carry on slipping aircon off when needing that extra bit of bhp on uphill overtaking etc!!

Missy, you'll probably notice that fuel tends to stay in the tank a bit longer with the aircon off as well
