Type R losing water badly!!!
#1
A mate of mine has a Ver4 typeR which is losing about 1/4 of a pint of water a day, it appears to be blowing back to the small plastic header tank next to the front of the left wing, its either leaking out of the cap or a overflow pipe, why is it doing this & what is the correct rectification of this problem, (new rad cap fitted already)
Thanks for any help

When my engine was at temperature with the cap of the coolant top up tank, reving the engine showed bubbles in the top up tank after the rpm's had settled back to idle. I was loosing my water when the bubbles burst and the splashes found their way out of the over flow pipe.
Editted to say there was a puddle of water in front of the battery tray when it had actually over flowed.

From: From : somewhere between here & there - also at wyioc.co.uk - are you?
Dont know if this is the case, but a couple of months back I had a similar problem with my Type-R, which after much probing and p*ssing around was found to be a split pipe.
This was the pipe from the top of the radiator to the block (an s shape). There was a little split under the jubilee clip and the block side that didnt leak when cold but then did leak slightly under load once warm. Even then it wasnt consistent.
The garage were looking for ages before they finally found it. Plus due to the location it never reached the ground leaving puddles so I wasnt expecting it.
I was sh*tting it thinking it was the head but luckily it wasnt!!!!! I hope that this is the case for you!!
Dont know if this helps!! Hope it does!!
