Version 4 type r my manual intercooler spray works fine but i have no power at the switch for the auto one. Any ideas where the live to the switch comes from (fuse) which i suppose in turn switchs the light on the dash on

Eh? What exactly is the problem here? If the backlighting for the switch doesn't come on when you turn your lights on, the likeliest reason is that the lightbulb in the switch itself has gone.
In that case, push the switch out of the dash from behind and you'll see the bulb socket on the side. Take it out, nip down to H*lf*ds and get another.
AFAIAA (although I could easily be wrong on this!) there's no "live" going to the switch itself. All it does is short the input to ground, causing the port on the ECU to go low, allowing it to activate the spray as it thinks fit.

When you say "give it a drive", you'll have to give it a good caning to get the auto spray working.
Can't remember exactly what the activation parameters are, but either way it'll only come on at high engine speeds/boost pressures/intake temps.
