Dawes is a manufacturer of pedal cycles.
you can easily check if you have one by looking in the garage.
Another satisfied punter

sorry, dont know, but many of them have fitted *it*

It's a "Mechanical Boost Controller".
A little deely that takes control of boost away from the ECU, allowing you to simply (& cheaply) raise the boost level. Mentioned seperately to a normal 'bleed valve' as it is a different product, although with the same ends, is far more effective so the point of sometimes it still being used with reprogrammed ECUs. It's boost control could be seen as being better than the ECUs when a 2-port solenoid is used rather than a 3-port.
Did that help, or confuse?

Thanks chaps...and btw peanuts...I had a Dawes when I was a lad but now have a Trek

So seriously.....

What I have on mine is a little "jobbie" with what looks like an insulated hose running from it and it has a gold cone at the top.

It is attached next to the boost solenoid (at least I thing thats what its called!).

....so from that impeccable description...do I have a Dawes???

I previously had what you described. Main dealer told me it was a 'bleed valve'. It was fitted in tandem with a Superchip, and together they played merry hell with the boost solenoid.

In my layman's understanding a bleed valve on it's own would not increase boost because the ECU would still have programmed safe limits. (I maybe wrong - and probably am) but it may be worth checking for any hidden extras in your ECU.

Hope that helps.
I had all offending items removed and the car now runs better (albeit a tad slower).

doobiedooo,

Do a search for "dawes" in Scoobynet and you will be reading about it until the cows come home.

Craig.

Gold cone thingy is a bleed
It just bleeds air out so the system thinks there's less boost than there is so keeps building boost a bit more.
A bit messy.
Nothing like the accuracy of a Dawes.
'Chuck it' I think would be good advice, then rummage around under the dash & hope you don't find a 'Superchip'
Then, if you find the car a little slow after this, replace the whole kaboodle with a Dawes (you'd need a boost guage as well) & follow JBs instructions. Which are around somewhere...

Thanks Nom.

Where would the super chip be? Drivers side or in with the ECU?

You've got me. No idea where a Superchips would be! Presumably somewhere near the ECU, which is in the passenger footwell under all the carpet (& a metal cover). But I'm not entirely sure what you'd be looking for...
People out there have superchips & would probably know better

I had some super chips last night along with a simply marvelous steak and kidney pudding I left them in the passenger well, as suggested as I was driving back home and they made bugger all difference to the performance of the car - thats the last time i listen to you guys!!

And by the way they were all mashed up when I unwrapped them I suppose this was detonation
