I have just rigged up an I/C water spray using the headlight washer pump and an old Cossie oil spray bar (Basically a hollow metal tube with 8 tiny holes in it.This I attatched to the intercooler housing. Now when I press the button to spray my headlights 8 thin jets of water are sprayed directly onto the intercooler element. My car is a Uk spec 1999 model.

My question is,would this work very well or is it,as I suspect complete bobbins and a waste of 2 hours of my life!!??

Question

Have you taken into consideration that at speed the water if in a downward position may just miss the intercooler all together?

Think you will find a fine mist is better..

The dealer can do STI jets from the original water spray etc..

If the intercooler is getting wet then it will cool it slightly and def help though..

I think from memory GGR do the STI nozzles too.. not too expensive..

sounds good though...

JGM is right, concentrated jets aren't any real use at all. You need misting nozzles which cover as large an area of the I/C as possible.

I fitted it to mine recently, main reason I wanted it is to bring down temps as quickly as poss when the I/C gets heatsoaked - e.g. if you're sitting in traffic with little airflow then get onto a bit of open road and can up the speed a little the water spray can only help get I/C temp down quicker and reduce the risk of detting.

IMO it ain't gonna be much benefit if you're heating the I/C enough when travelling at speed that it's saturating - in that case the best solution is a bigger I/C. There have been measured reductions in IAT of a few degrees with water spray by some members on here who have the equipment to measure it - I don't.

Definitely worth getting decent nozzles though if you intend using it.
