Question

I've found my knock readings to be interesting...It always has a correct of upto 8deg when on normal throttle positions and goes upto 10.5 ish when on hard chat...that sound okay? Interesting thing...my knock link as normal only has one dim green light and the odd 1 maybe 2 green when really hard booting it.

The car is manic on spec...Tek3, SR40, STI7 jets, pump, 3" system with single sport cat, HKS manifold, induction kit, etc, etc.

Thanks John. It was only the reading of upto 5 deg with almost no throttle that made me wonder if it was okay...

Must be serious knock for the knock link to light up to red. I've never had it go more than 2 green (even in hot weather).

Question

Oh, should've asked...what would be the expected ratio for stoich with upto 1.5 bar boost and TEk3? .86?

Not sure what it is at the mo, but a quick run down the motorway in a mo will confirm.

John,

If the big red light does flash, what would that indicate (other than a big noise from det)?

Since I fitted mine (about 3 weeks now), only the bottom two flash. I was giving the car major stick a week ago and the Red light flash once around 6,000 rpm on the gear change.

Is this necessarily det?

If you were at 7000 on the gearchange it could have been the rev limiter. A sudden spike to red should be considered to be det until proven otherwise, but if a one off I would not worry about it. Probably hot, and less good fuel than usual.

Thanks John.

Yeah, it's only happened once, it's been quiet as a door mouse any other time. I'll keep an eye on things and try to stay away from that red line

I've just had an Esso super run at night...had the odd det signal from Knock link...Secs was reading upto about 14 deg (probably more but not easy to confirm and watch the road at the same time when the car pulls like an animal!). I always run Shell Super, but for once had no choice but to use Esso. Just filled the tank again and knock seems to of gone again.

What's the max secs reading for knock that's okay (safe)?

You're looking at the knock correction all wrong. Sorry no time to explain, read the blurb on the Ecutek site on active ignition timing.

Got it. My readings of 14 etc are positive knock correction...meaning it's adding advance...not seeing knock...great! The knock link did light up some though at times, but it's hard to tell if its just 'knock' as my auto waterspray setup makes the leds flash when on/off using relays. I need to change the cabling slightly to take the knock link away from any other electrical devices.
