Apexi Power FC and commander vs ECU remap

Morning all
This is for a MY93.
I am looking into the pros and cons of either of the above. It seems to me on paper that the best way to go is with the Power FC which is a new ECU, and the commander giving you the option of changing the parameters of boost, fueling and ignition timimg.
Whereas a remap programmes the standard ECU with fixed paratemeters.
Is my understanding of the Apexi unit right and what are peoples opinions.
Cheers
Ivan

Where is Bulphan? Thurrock? (just checked
)
I have a Power FC and Andy F on here can map it for you providing you get the relavant commander, or maybe Abbey motorsport.
I am very pleased with my Power FC now it is set up properly, you could go anyway both are tried and tested and work well it all comes down to personal choice. Most mappers will advise you to use a standalone Boost controller ie an AVC-R, all in all I am very happy with my car.

Thinking about what you said about a stand alone boost controller, does the power FC not have a boost control option and if not, what parameters can be changed?
Cheers

I believe the Power FC does have a boost control program but an AVC-R does everything so much better and would expect 99% of mappers to expect you to have something like the AVC-R to control the boost.
Don't know too much about the tech side of this but there are poeple here that know more, Andy F(if you can get hold of him

i also run the POWER FC and i have got to say i am very happy with it ![Smile](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
the down side to the power FC(or any replacement ECU) is the price compared with a remap of the standard JECS.
if you are just planning for or have mild mods you are best off using the JECS.
if you are wanting the most out of the car you are better off with a fully mappable ECU like the POWER FC/GEMS/LINK/.
i also use the optional boost control kit and can not fault it at all, boost is held rock steady right through the rev range.
the advantage of the AVC-R is its can be mapped in each gear.
RC-DEVELOPMENTS did the mapping for me the first time but i am going to use Andy F for mapping in the future.
hope this helps![Smile](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)

I have an Apexi power FC and also the boost controller kit, not a stand alone such as AVC-R, on my RB5. I think the boost kit is the best way to go. The main ECU we supply (I work at a skyline tuning company) is Apexi and we always recommend the boost controller. Whether to remap you existing ECU or fit something new (such as power FC) is dependant on how much you plan on modifying your car. If just basic things, exhaust + filter then a remap. However if you are going further then the replacement ECU is definately the best option.
