Guys, i have a 1995 WRX and i think the engine has seen better days. How much of a job would it be to simple replace the engine for an STI lump ? is this a huge amount of work ? is anyone out there capabale of doing it for me and at what price ? does anyone have a decent STI lump they want to sell ?

Engine wise it is a straight swap for a STI engine up to version 4 (phase one) bt the looms/ecu are different which is where the prob comes. Are you looking to swap to an STI due to the Power??
If so, stick with the WRX engine.. Get it converted to front entry for the turbo and a decent Map and hey presto.... STI power

Rob

P.s. there are a coule of other bits but thats the basics.

the thing is it seems cheaper to buy an STI engine than it does to buy pistons and rods etc..

Rods and pistons can be had for £1000, an STI engine is going to cost you more than that, i suppose you have the labour for fitting rods etc..
But... the STI engines run the same rods as the WRX and the Forged pistons are not the same quality as aftermarket pistons IMHO.
The STI heads have better flow properties IIRC but nothing that could not be done to teh WRX heads.
I suppose it depends where you want to go with your engine/car, i would not look upon an STI engine as an upgrade of internals.

Cool

Recently done an engine swap, completed in a day (a long day). No problems at all if you have a similar spec engine going in.....

Though TR has covered many aspects of this....
