I have a MY99 Uk classic.
I have crappy Idle'ing
Boost judders between 4000- 5000 revs
I have a ITG panel filter and a forge dump valve.
After reading some of the threads on here I am going to conclude that me MAF sensor has gone, Does anybody know where I can get one and are they hard to fit or will I need top get someone to do it for me.
Thanks
Ryan

From Subaru dealers (code is around somewhere on the bbs) and it's seriously easy to fit - unplug the old, stick in the new!
They are quite delicate, so don't whack the thing about, but the new ones are much tougher than the old.
Mainly, do it quickly, as in this weather things can go

Have a look at http://www.saxonfields.freeserve.co.uk/Scooby%20Page/ECU%20Diag%20Page.htm It will become evident what the problem is if you follow these simple instructions, has your 'check engine' light come on at all.

THanks everyone fort your help, I must admit the engine light has been coming on every now and then but doesn't seem to stay on????????? strange......
How much is a Green filter, is it a panel filter and just slots in.
Also is there any chance that a dirty air filter would cause this??????
thanks very much everyone....

I'm sure the ITG's a good filter, but its tendency to deposit filter gunk certainly seems to be a bad omen for the MAF sensor on these cars. Seems as though they can do for the 01< cars as well as the 99/00's! ![Frown](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/frown.gif)
Yes, K&N definitely do make a panel filter that'll fit your needs, I'm running one, and so are plenty of others here. Haven't dinked a MAF sensor yet (fingers tightly crossed!).

The part number you need for the 99/00 MAF sensor element is 22794AA010.
The ITG filters are well known for causing this problem, so when changing the sensor you may like to switch to a Green or K&N panel, which don't have the same tendency to coat the sensor in gunk.
Edited to say:
Big Red: Unfortunately, checking for CEL codes is unlikely to reveal anything in this case. The MAF sensor will only throw a DTC when it is totally screwed. When it's just misreading, as this one seems to be doing, the ECU can't tell.

I think both K&N & Green do both the panel and cone type filter setups for the Impreza, although the ones I was talking about were the panel filters, yes.
ITG themselves may do a cleaning kit for their filter, but that's slightly missing the point. The problem with the ITG filters is not that they let "dirty air" in, it's that they are covered in oily filter gunk. The gunk gets sucked onto the heated MAF sensor element, where it burns, damaging the sensor in the process.
The solution here isn't to clean the ITG filter, it's to use one that isn't impregnated with such high levels of gunk - hence the K&N or Green.![Smile](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
If your CEL has been coming on, you'll be able to see what's triggering it by connecting the read memory (black) plugs under the dashboard.
Edited to say: Any Subaru dealer should be able to obtain the MAF sensor for you given the part number I mentioned above. However, Zippy from here suggested Mainland Subaru in Widnes on 0151 495 2091. £62 there apparently, which is pretty much as cheap as chips. Ask for Mark, tell them Zippy sent you, and let us know how you get on!![Smile](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
