First clean of the engine bay since the PPP has gone on, and I noticed the heat shield has disappeared. I just wanted reassurance that this is normal... anyone?

If you're talking about the heat shield over the turbo, no it isn't right, it should be there! The downpipe is not shielded but there should be a "jacket" around the catalyst. When the second catalyst is removed the heat shielding around it is replaced onto the new part.

Not sure if this'll help any...

John... there is some heat wrap stuff around the catalist as you can just see in the pictures, but the heat shield over the turbo is gone. Can I assume then that it actually should still be there?

On my MY00 Classic when I fitted the downpipe initially I didn't have time to modify my heatshield, so I didn't re-fit it straight away, however I did suffer with a few problems that turned out to be heat related. I re-fitted the heatshield and have not suffered any similar problem again.

So I would assume that your STi should still have the heatshield fitted.

Definately not good to leave that off, you are heating the intercooler (raising charge temps). The "dealer" wants "shooting" and should know better. In addition you are pushing heat at the brake and cltch resevoirs.

Unless Prodrive support that action, which I strongly doubt, suggest getting it back on asap.

Don't forget to look under the car and make sure the heat shield over the section that replaces the second cat is in place too, the O2 sensor is in there too.
The intercooler has been off so check ALL hoses - my sons car had THREE hoses not replaced when he picked his STi up after PPP (luckily they were just the breather ones that go on the thin tubes bolted to the intercooler)

Ok, can I just confirm that people who've stated the heat shield is on their car, are people who have an STI8 and have had the Prodrive Performance Pack fitted?

The reason I want to make sure is because I've just spoken to the dealership that fitted my PPP, and the techy that I spoke to explained that on the STi8, the standard downpipe is replaced with one that has a separate pipe for the wastegate, thus increasing the size of the downpipe next to the turbo, and making it too big for the heat shield. The wrapping around the cat lower down is what he called a "heat dispersant", which is supposed to draw heat away from the turbo, and take away the need for a heat shield.

If he hadn't have been so straight forward and forthright with an explanation, I might have wondered if he knew what he was talking about, but he was, and I'm pretty sure he did.

Anyone?

Put it like this...either you're minus a heat shield, or I'm minus the PPP, in which case my dealer's in for a mouthfull

Seriously, had the PPP fitted on the STi8 at the 10000 service, had the shield before and still have it

Well I'm confussled then. Is there anyone from Prodrive out there who might be able to confirm one way or another? Failing that, has anyone got any other suggested contacts to resolve this matter? With the Subaru dealer insisting that the heat shield is discarded as part of the PPP, I need something concrete in order to get it back on if needed.

Ok, called Subaru UK a few minutes ago to see what they could tell me, and essentially, the heat shield should be filed down to fit over the larger downpipe, but my local dealership didn't do this. I've since spoken to them to tell them what the score is, and they'll hopefull be ringing Subaru UK to get instructions on what exactly to do to the heat shield... and put it back on my blummin' car!!
