Opportunity for tech people ???

I've only been a scoobynet member & owner for a few months but I'm starting to see a pattern appear within the posts here:
Fauly Maf > Car runs Lean > Engine Fcuked..
Has anyone thought , or is it possible to tap into a wire on the ecu with something as simple as a bright red bulb somewhere on the dash , so that in the event of the MAF failing people would at least get a warning about it , as from what i read we dont get a CEL with the MAF failing
If anyone decides to make this device or similar and dosnt cut me in , I'll cut your legs off

You've not quite got the theory right MadGrip. You do get a CEL when the MAF sensor has completely failed.
The trouble is that when the sensor is in the earlier stages of failure, or has become contaminated with oil (etc), it will still read, but will read low.
When it reads low, the ECU thinks there's less air going into the engine and leans the mixture accordingly. It doesn't take long before this results in higher cylinder temps, det and damage.
As the Judge suggests, the only practical way of picking this up as it happens is to run a good AFR meter, and look for changes in the WOT mixtures, which in itself can be difficult if the deterioration in the sensor occurs over an extended period of time.
