In The Subaru Manual it says to use soft water with your coolant to top up.

Is this commonly practised, or does everyone use tap water.

Is it the same as distilled water you buy for irons.

Can I just add some ph down from my fish tank kit to tap water, to bring the water down to a "soft" ph value.

or drive to cumbria and use our tap water, could be another Scooby In A Lake on the horizon.

Soft water is water with no lime in it - the pH level wont do anything I think, as it changes depending on the area. Cumbria is all softwater (those lakes have to be useful for something other than attracting gore-tex wearing buffoons), although not everyone has the same pH value to their tapwater - as I found out via my fish tank.

better stick with Evian.
