I was wondering if anyone else had found that the Prodrive exhaust on their 03(01/02?) STi pops quietly to itself on the over-run after some spirited driving?

I'm sure it didn't do when it first went on, but perhaps a layer of soot/coke type stuff is required to assist the popping. I'd first noticed it a few days ago, stopped at some lights after some full throttle acceleration, blipped the throttle (cos the windows were all open and it sounds nice), and it went 'pop' as the revs dropped back down. Not a loud bang mind, it's a discreet and gentlemanly pop... but entertaining nonetheless. I can't stop trying to do it now!

PS.. no need to tell me to 'try a cat-less system mate!'... I'm happy with me warranty!

My MY99 TypeR pops like hell, enough to scare people, especially when I'm driving through the town centre sat afternoon to go to the hole in the wall.

It seems to pop the loudest when in first or second and dropping from 2500rpm to 1500rpm.

The kids cheer, the dads nod in appreciation, the young women take an interset in whos behind the wheel and the older women give you a dirty look.

My STi7 (full decat + Ecutek remap) does this. Apparently it's nothing to worry about.

my old classic with ppp and sports cat downpipe, started to do this after a few months of ppp, i loved it, sounded meaty and race car ish [im 36 and very sad]
i gotta a STi8 now awaiting ppp in a couple of weeks, so im looking forward to being reaquainted to that 'gentlemanly pop' again lol
