Hi all,
I have a standard uk 97 2000 turbo it has done 89000 with fssh and is in very well looked after condition.
I would like some advice please it has got a noisy dump valve on it (on there when i bought it)and a maxium i think rear box ( on there when i bought it)thats all.
I would like to increase the power but dont whant to affect the reliability what do you think is the max bhp i can safly expect to get, i use my scooby daily and depend on it for work
All advise is taken on board and much appreciated thank-you
p.s i am very new to this game so any short hand i might struggle with also a rough cost guide would be great, (don't wan't to much do i)

The first thing you could do is get a decat downpipe this will speed spool up and increase power , you could then get a dry free flowing air filter not oil based as these can damage your maf sensor (mass air flow).Next you could fit a AFR (air fuel ratio) indicator this shows you if you are running lean and a knocklink this indicates detonation .These are both safety indicators and don't give any more power if you do a search on these you will get more information . Then you could either go for a remap which is fairly expensive or fit a dawes device which is a cheaper option ,if you are not going for serious power eg front mount intercooler and high boost then i would go for the dawes .You could raise boost to 1.1 bar roughly and with the above you would notice a big difference but still keep reliability . But the AFR and KNOCKLINK are a must for safety. But with any upgrade you do at your own risk.
Hope this helps , i am sure you will get told loads of different options this is just one .

Downpipe £150 ish
Air filter £50 ish
AFR £70 ish
Knocklink £130 ish
Dawes £60 ish
ECU up grade /remap £800 upwards at a guess
If you look in the for sale section and are patient you can pick all bits up second hand for a bit cheaper as i have done .
And one last one thing that a lot forget about UPGRADE BRAKES maybe second hand set of 4 pots off later car £250-300 for 4 pots discs and pads
