Question

Hi All,

I just want to know ,when You are using WI do lean out the mixture and to what??

If i now drive at 1,45bar on a TD05 with a AFR of 10,8-11,2:1,

Do i need to lean it out? ,or simply give it more advance, and drive with the same AFR,

All input would be great,

Question

I was under the impression water injection simply helps to reduce the temperature inside the combustion chamber. I didn't think it affected the AFR?

What's your knocklink telling you at that compression ratio?

I mean ,
when the WI is installed and working ,
can the AFR not be leaned out a bit now that the WI is cooling the charge.

I can see in the US ,when they use WI they lean out the mixture to around 12,0:1

Skassa,

There are (at least) 2 issues here, each of which has an affect on the other.

1. With WI operating your WBO2 will read a different AFR than with no WI even though you are mixing the same volumes of Air and Fuel.

2. Presuming that you are using WI for power as well as safety you do not need to add the same (excessive) amount of fuel for detonation suppression as without WI, you can aim for a more efficient AFR.

As you know this is a vastly complex subject and the effect of WI is not a simple add X much water, remove Y fuel and add Z advance.

Skassa,

As a matter of interest, I believe Peter Gargano was going to publish some figures about the effects of Water/Methanol on readings from the v2 WBo2.

Also have you been following some of the threads about the Bosch LSU sensor overheating on the Yahoo mailing list? Although I have not had any problems with mine (yet)...
