Just found a supplier who has new STI4 intercoolers from japan but there are back rather than the silver colour...

Can the IC be painted in the normal way including the fins..?

Sounds dodgy, as Micky says. I'd be very wary of buying an I/C sold as an STi item if it wasn't silver.

mite be nice to get a WRX template and spray the IC.. dont know if it would be detrimental to its efficiency though

Bah

I trawled scoobynet, E-bay and the rest for an Sti Intercooler for my bugeye WRX... .
Ninnybobs (Tyne Tees Scoobys) hit a gold mine and found one but in the end I found my local Subaru Dealer was the best (genuine OEM) option.

Black is a more efficient colour for heat exchange than the "raw" aluminium silver.

Im sure ive read several times on here and MRT forums that the regular and STI intercoolers are the same apart from the color, considering the difference between years of course. The difference is in the hosing not the cores?
Can anyone measure the cores on a regular black one vs the silver sti logo one?

Shape isn't quite the same, just looks like it is unless you have the two side by side.

Greasemonkey is right, the end tank is bigger on the bulkhead side and if you look at the core they are different all be it only slightly.

I have seen info on tests done and the STI one has a lower pressure drop across the core.

I had a custom made ally radiator made for my 02, black is best but after spending .... had to leave it shiny

Got a MY01 intercoler going spare, i have a STI7 one now.
