Hi,
I've got the prodrive quickshift installed in my Impreza, but sometimes I have difficulty (especially when the car is cold) in getting it into first gear after driving, i.e., I start off from my house, 2nd, 3rd, slow down for junction at the end of the road and it won't go into 1st straight away. Sometimes needs a declutch and then in. Any ideas or is this normal ?

Also, what is actually replaced when fitting the quickshift and how does it work ?

Cheers

Andy

Everything between the gear **** and the selector shaft is replaced, comes as one unit, you would have to look at it to see how it worked, but basically the fulcrum point of the gear lever is moved so that at the far end, (selector shaft), there is more movement for a corresponding shorter movement at the gearshift end.

I think that it is inappropriately named as a quickshift, and should actually be called a short shift.

Don't know if that helps at all.

I don't think this is a problem with the quickshift itself. How many miles have you done ? I found it reluctant to change down into 1st, especially after starting, and from what I have heard, its something that gets better the more miles you put on. I've now done 11k and it is definitely much better than when I bought the car.

Hi,
The car's only done 6500 miles so I'll see how it goes. It also seems to work better if I double declutch on changing down.

Hi,

Try shift to 1st thru 2nd gear i.e. press the clutch, shift to 2nd and that without depressing the clutch shift to 1st.

It seems like common synchronization problem.

Hi,
do you guys find that the quickshift makes a lot difference in performance terms?

I've got a '99. I heard that the gear was updated for this year.

Thanks,
Sonu...

I've not crunched gears going up or down (as I could do in my old Alfa - especially 4th - 5th) and I do tend to change gear quickly. The only problems I've had have been those I've mentioned before - and that's only 1st gear, others are fine.

Cheers

The quickshift does make gearchanges 'feel' quicker due to its shorter throw, but its purely subjective. As to whether it improves actual performance is anybody's guess - I recommend trying before you buy.
