this might sound odd, but, do the engines get very dirty?the one im hopefully gettin looks like new, which has just made me think, maybe it is? spotles considering the age of the car, this usual?

Engine not modified, was at 70,000km just after import. Think the cause was running on Jap ECU map with too high boost etc for uk. First symptoms were 'lumpy' idling, burning oil, then some more, then all of the oil, also engine cutting out. All in all not a nice experience and obviously very expensive.

My 95 WRX import went pop on Aug 30th 2003 with 65784 miles on clock.

Discovered car had a Jap aftermarket ECU (MINE's) so possible knock/det/pinking. Car ran 1.1bar boost no probs and went like ****. I lost oil out exhaust and loads of blue smoke out breather hoses. Removed no4 spark plug to find lots of oil. Removed engine to find cambelt was out a few teeth so that too would have helped the destruction. Engine currently stripped in my garage, inspection found lots of damage to no4 piston and some light scoring on cylinder. Awaiting rebuild. Forged everything, uprated bearings, clutch, oil & fuel pumps etc etc. Est rebuild costing around £3.5k (remember no labour cost involved as its DIY)

Not a nice thing to go through but it'll be worth it. I've also fitted loads of gauges to monitor for knock/AFR/oil pressure/oil temp.

caz, my sympathy mate, I've just waited 7 weeks to get my car back, hope yours doesn't take that long. I had all the same symptoms as you, had a Zero Sport chip in it with very high boost, went like the clappers!! Now got a ScoobyECU in it, feels nice and smooth, although still running in so not put the foot down yet.

Now I'm paranoid as hell, in case it goes again, Knocklink a must.
