I need your help please.

My car:

my99 uk car

magnex centre and back box.

forge vta dump valve

62k miles

just had the 60k service done last week by a subaru specialist.

the problem:

at low revs it seem s to boost fine, peaking at about 16 before falling down to 14ish.

after about 4500revs the boost starts the flucuate between 12 and 14 before dropping to between 10 and 12.

it feels as though your driving into a stong headwind if that makes sense.

I tried an ecu reset lastnight and that didn't work.

tomorrow i will change the dump valve back to standard.

any more ideas???

thanks in advance

Eddie

i had a simular problem yesterday. i checked my engine tonight and found oil on the bottom of my intercooler because i over filled the oil on saturday. i have now removed some of the oil and cleaned the oil from around the intercooler and from the front pipe on the turbo, it seems ok know but i have nt checked it on high speeds yet. i was getting the loss of power from 80 mph to 100 mph (3000 rpm to about 4500 rpm). so you may wont to check your oil. hope this helps.

Same happened on my MY00 UK car (albeit unmodified). Soon after a service the boost started 'hunting' in 4th / 5th gear around 4000rpm. Checked the oil and saw it was just over the max fill line. Took it back to the garage who drained it a bit and sure enough the problem went away. No cleaning involved. I think I got the advice off here somewhere.....

M8 I just got my car(same as yours), and doing the same thing!
Exactly what you described driving into a STRONG head wind, the boost just drops off at higer speeds/RPM......

I haven't got a boost gauge etc to get a better understanding, but deffo the boost just drops off!!!!

I will be having a good play with it tomorrow to see what I can come up with, let me know if you have any success before I do.

I took the plunge and bought a new maf sensor.

Now running at a peak of 14psi, first few miles peaked at about 10psi to start with, try again tomorrow with another drive down a 'private' road.

so its looking promising.

by the way i think i may have fooked the original maf with over liberal use of brake cleaner. doh.

Weird though a knackered maf gives no cel and a limp home mode, yet disconnect it to get a better idea, it lights up the dash and runs like sh1te, go figure....

cheers
