MY99 ECU hates the sun ?
#1
Bizarre as this may seem, I have a recurring problem with my MY99.
Symptoms : Start the car and drive off normally. When trying to cruise i.e. neither accelerate or brake the car reacts as if you've just stepped off the gas quite jerkily. Add a little throttle and you accelerate jerkily. This can best be described as kangaroo petrol..the car is either accelerating or slowing.
At first I thought it was me, but it's happened about 3/4 times now. The connection ? it's always after a run into town, then returning to a baking hot car. If I drive the car for 10 mins the symptoms go away.
I'm going to ask the dealer to investigate during the next service but realistically I suspect this will be one of those problems thats so hard to replicate it won't be found and fixed.
Would I benefit from plugging the green connectors together to obtain a ECU readout ? I.e. I've had no engine warning light come on but do you think any error codes may be stored ?

The engine code lights will only show a very limited number of active fault codes.
We have the latest Subaru plug in diagnostic tool which not only reads historic faults but allows us to reply the data.
We can access every data channel in the whole car (ABS, air con, vehicle wiring). It really is a stunning tool and not in every dealers toolkit. Plus we get the latest software updates from Japan.
This should sort it if you wanted us to have a look, but if you have a good dealer they shouldn't have any trouble.
