The key that won't turn
#1
No its not the latest 'mills & boon' title - My ignition key is proving a little stubborn It sometimes won't turn past first position without removing and 'jiggling' then re-trying? I only collected the car yesterday, so it could just be a 'bedding-in' problem, but any ideas???

When I first collected my MY99 I too had this "problem". For me anyway it was a matter of getting used to the way it works.
Try the key but slowly to see how it works. When you know at which bit you push, at which bit you turn etc, try it from start to finish..it should be easy. Also not having the wheel on full lock helps (or was than a different car I had ? )

Have to agree with Lee...
Picked mine up new and went out for the day with the kids etc, come to leave the car park and could'nt start it the key just would not turn had to fiddle for some 10 mins before it turned and started !!!! Since then it has got easier as i've got used to it.

may sound daft but when I had an MY 98 UK car I could only turn the key after moving gearstick into neutral and depressing the clutch - I never found out whether there was any kind of gear selection sensor logic involved but I know the key always turned easily after performing this little ritual. My 99 sti does not do this though.... try it it may help

When I picked up my MY99 I couldn't get the key to turn at all. This was because I was pushing it in as I tried to turn it. This is the normal procedure with cars which have steering locks but not on the Scooby. Just put the key in and turn. Then when you want to get the key out you have to push it in. Must make sense to someone???!!!

My car - the sti 5 and I've had some problems with the key. The importer says this is common but could not give a reason for it.
Push in key, try and turn (whilst not pushing in) and you get nowwhere - I take the key out, turn it round try again and it normally works (no its not the case of one side only working!)
This is however frustrating - but I can live with it. Of more frustration was when I picked up the car for the first time could not get key out! - then I realised you had to push it in - never come across that before - how embarassing!

Ditto - Sti V. For the first couple of days I was convinced the key would only work one way up. I later discovered that it would work either way just by easing it in or out slightly whilst turning it. Now I don't have any trouble with the key either way up...
