Unhappy

Just driven back into car park and a loud squealing noise started. Coming from back of car and only occurs when car is moving. Could it be something caught in brakes? Nothing obvious to see but haven't had time to get a close look.
Any thoughts please...

You've probably just got a stone wedged up between the brake disk and the disk 'back plate'.

Thumbs up

Cheers Simon,
If that is the case how do i get the stone out? Tried reversing and braking etc. Will have time tonight to have a look, and jack it up if need be.

This happens a lot to me. Little stones get flicked up and lodge between the disk and backing plate. It happens at the front & rear, and often when I pull into the gritty car-park here at work. Maybe the backing plate shoudl be bent away from the disk slightly at the bottom to allow the stones to drop out?

When I first got the car, a particularly big piece of grit got caught behind a front backing plate as I was caning the car over Hartside Pass in the North of England (superb road!). I didn't know what it was then, and thought I'd killed my car! Gave a load of bikers something to look at as I scrabbled around under my car trying to locate the source ...

Often simply stopping, reversing and then driving off again can cure it.

Andy.

If u're skilled, removing the little grit won't be a problem. Remove wheel n if lucky, a small flat driver can do the trick. If not, U mught have to remove the rear caliper one side n flip open it to remove the nasty little bugger or worst, the disc might have to come off if it's stick inside the brake shoes.
