30K Service - HOW MUCH!!!?
#1
My 98 Impreza Turbo UK has just returned to me after a 1/2 day 30K service. I'm amazed how much my official Subaru dealer has charged me!
No brakes, no cambelt, no tyres!! - Just a straight by the book service (lubrication, wipers etc.)cost me £430 (inc VAT)They charged £200 parts & £170 Labour + VAT.
I find this outrageous - does anyone know the going rate? Is this normal??
When my girlfriend picked the car up she commented on the high cost, the recepotionist commented "Don't worry, I'm sure he can afford it".
Have I been ripped off? Any help much appreciated.

Where did you get your car serviced? If nothing was replaced, it should have about £380ish. At least that's what Mill Lane Engineering in Basingstoke would have charged.
I've been told by serveral owners that Mill Lane is one of the cheaper dealers for servicing in the Hampshire area.
Hope this helps, and that I haven't shot myself in the foot!!!

Steve.
I paid £310 for mine, but this didn't include oil (I took my own) or an air filter (I have an induction kit). It should have been about £350 apparently.
It's always worth shopping round.
My dealer is Westaway Motors in Northampton. Very friendly family run business. Highly recommended.

Steve,
No rip off; well not in the `your alone sense.`
Lancaster Sevenoaks; main dealer - main prices..I payed about the same, in fact a bit more around #450squid. As you say 200 odd on parts, 200 odd on labour + VAT....
I`ll be going Basingstoke way next time!!!!!

are you sure you had the service done at mill lane, we have only done one 30,000 mile service in the last three weeks and we charged the customer £ 389.09, which also included new bulb and fitting!!
usual cost of 30,000 service with nothing else included about £380.
are you getting confused with millway at salisbury?

Thought I'd mention that my car had it's 30k service at Mill Lane last week and I was charged the 385 quid I was quoted on the phone (plus some more for new front pads).
Note that other dealers quoted between 350 and 450 quid.
It's a 3.5 hour service which at Mill Lane's 45 quid an hour, comes to £157.50. Can't remember the exact parts bill.
Since we appear to have someone from Mill Lane sales here, I'd just like to comment that I like the fact that they don't have a big, flash, expensive showroom -- I don't want to pay more for servicing to fund a plush showroom.

Stef,
Its good to see someone else uses Westaway Northampton. Don't you think Derek is jsut great with Imprezas? Have you ever let him drive yours down the lane over the road? I crapped myself when he drove mine, and its not even modded!
I'm putting mine in for a small service tomorrow. I hope its not too much, as the brakes are spongy as well. Needs a new backbox too
Cheers

30k service £400 at Salisbury dealer including 2 new P6000's, beat that! Got the stamp and invoice to proove it. Or £400 for just the service at Chaplegate. I trust the latter but in the circumstances couldn't resist the former.
You get what you pay for I guess.

Have you got a standard backbox then?
Why not upgrade if you have.
Derek is very good, but I took my car there yesterday to sort out a rear wheel sqeal, and ended up paying £50 to be told my front pads were cracked. They didn't even ckeck the rears!! Not happy, especially as they put the pads in themsleves 3 weeks ago!!!!
