Question

Is it possible, that if a spark plug was faulty, it could cause misfiring at low revs in its cylinder, but then pick up and perform normally above a certain revs threshold?

This is on a Golf, by the way. Any thoughts, or ideas as to what else this could be, appreciated. Thanks.

It's possible, had this on my wifes escort, would missfire at low revs mainly when under load, but be fine once revving. Changed plugs and problem sorted, could be the leads also, (but plugs are cheaper and more likely).

Cheers Ian. The plugs are certainly number one suspect, as not much else was changed at the last service.

Unfortunately, on a Mk3 16v, they're £68 a set, and only available from VW!

Ouch !, still I tried going down the NGK/Bosch route with the Escort, didn't fix the problem, so I bought some Mega leads which made it better but didn't resolve. In the end I bought the ford motorcraft ones (£28 per set, which I though was steep), instant fix ! should have bought them in the first place.

I'm actually quite happy to buy a decent set of leads, as on a Mini i switched to NGKs and i was convinced they made a difference.

Any recommendations as to who makes top notch replacement leads for a Mk3 Golf?
