Some paint companies can match the colour on your car from a sample, and provide liquid paint or sometimes aerosols, we found this very helpful when doing up old MG's whose actual paint colour bore almost no relationship to the paint code due to years of fading.

BTW how old is your car? is it possible it has faded? Speaking to a parts guy at my local dealer he said the paint does fade after a few years.

 

I recently picked up a touch-up paint stick from my dealer, having ordered it several weeks before. However, when I came to use it, I found it to be very, very much darker than the paint on the car! It looks almost black, or at least very dark navy blue, in comparison and stands out like a sore thumb (to me, at least!). It does have the correct paint code (52D from memory) as shown on the plate on the car, but the colour is called Royal Blue on the paint stick.

Has anyone else experienced a similar problem and come up with a solution?

I also have a touch up paint. Mine is also called Royal Blue - it is the correct colour although you should note that if you apply a blob - it will look darker as the paint is thicker - also the Subaru undercoat is light grey.

Thanks for that. However, as my car is only seven months old so I don't think fading is the answer.

I have applied the touch-up paint along a scratch running the length of the rear side panel of the rear bumper / valance and it really looks almost black in comparison to the original paint. Are you saying that yours does match the original car colour?

Mine is slightly darker - but not black in comparison. I however have only treated a couple of stone chips. If you have treated your bumper, you will have noticed that the bumper is black, so you have a black undercoat - rather than light grey. COuld this be the difference? (I suppose that you shook the paint up before applying it?)
