Morning Gents

I fitted a brand new Autometer Oil Temp guage yesterday, plumbed in
above No3 cylinder.

Anyway, the bluddy thing reads 300'F after about only 5 minutes

Is there anyway of checking whats at fault, whether its the gauge or a dodgy sender unit?....The supplier refused to help or exchange it and said it would need to go back to Autometer!

Many thanks
-Jon

Thumbs up

Hi Jon,

You could measure the electrical output of the sender and compare it to the meter's operating input, or failing that I could bring my new gauge over before I fit it and connect it to your sender. Gauge should be here by Thursday.

Cheers

Greg

Whatto Greg!

Thanks for that mate, but I now suspect that its the gauge,

I've just carried out the following test:-
(under strict laboratory conditions,mind you)

..I found an old sender in the shed, wired it up to the gauge then earthed it to the engine....next,I very carefully submerged it into a fresh mug of tea
....the gauge instantly read 240F!!

not that i think this will help, but i've just ordered an autometer gauge from an american company who recalibrate them with some sort of meter. they say the originally gauges aren't always "bang on" so that's why they do it. costs a wee bit more, but the piece of mind comes with it!
