I've noticed my temp gauge never gets over the 1/2 way mark? Even sat in traffic for a while. Is this usual? It does go straight there from cold, it slowly moves up to it, but I also noticed the car warms up to this temp quite quickly, after about 5 minutes of driving, is this right? Matt.

Perfectly fine.

The quick warm-up is the result of the closed thermostat....like every other single car on the road. Once up to temperature it opens, thus regulating temperature.

Good Stuff! My old Golf GTI's used to take at least a good 10 minutes before it was up to "rev the **** off it" temperature!

Hope you're letting the oil warm up too... It takes about another 10 minutes after the water temperature is up.

I never floor the car until I've been driving a good 15-20 minutes, I know how important it is to let the oil warm up.

I miss my computer on my Golf though, used to tell me the oil temperature at the press of a button.

Can't be bothered fitting a oil temp gauge to the Impreza, however the Knocklink sensor sounds tempting...

Thumbs up

Your golf probably had a lazy thermostat.

One advantage of the scoobs is the oil to water cooler, as well as cooling the oil...it helps warm it up too
