Unhappy

Hi,

I've been getting clutch slip lately when I put the boot in. It only started about 2-3 weeks ago but seems to be getting worse. It doesn't smell bad and no real judder but the slip implies its on the way out.

Has anyone had this (probably) and when should I replace it, I remeber seeing comments about flywheel damage so sooner the better I suppose. The dealer said 70% of the time when you get slip the flywheel will be shot anyway. Im looking at £600 fitted for the clutch and up to £900 for the flywheel as well

Has anyone had the wheel machined? Anyone had bad experience with AP cluutches?

Help

Wink

Hi bennetm,

I recently had the same problem on my Legacy turbo. Kept slipping when I reached about 3000rpm and got gradually worse (fast!).

I booked mine in as soon as I could. The flywheel was very slightly scored because of the rivets on the clutch plate starting to show! I think the flywheel can warp if really bad.

I was getting quotes similar to yourself from Subaru, but took it to my usual mechanic and he fitted an original clutch and had the flywheel skimmed for half what you quoted.

My advice to you would be to drive it easy until you get it sorted. Hope this helps.

PeeK.

Thumbs up

Thanks PeeK,

I'm trying to drive it nice but its tricky!!

I called my local motorsport guy who is quoting me on an AP clutch and remachined flywheel - should be a lot cheaper.

Thanks again.
