Any ideas if retrofitting an a/c in a MY00 is possible and if yes is it reliable?

Cool

Hi,

Although not a one hour job ,A/C can be
fitted with no problems and will function
with remarkable results ,provided that:
1- Use genuine items (expensive)
2- Modern systems use 134a refrigerant and NOT the older type ref.

Cars do come fitted from the factory with
such a nice addition, it all depends on the
customer and the car's destination country.

Sorry , but I just can not understand why people buy the car w/o A/C and then have to spend time and money looking to fit one.

Over here, where even a Greek Summer would look like an arctic winter . The original
Scooby A/C works like a charm and I am
talking about 50+ degrees celcius for almost
6 months of the year .

Best of luck

I believe that some dealers retro fit it in the UK to brand new and s/h cars, I watched them fit it to one in the showroom to a just registered Scoob whilst waiting for my car to be serviced.

On new cars, they are always fitted after delivery to the dealer (and not until a customer has ordered or even paid for it!!!!!) - normally as part of the PDI procedure.

Coolair I believe do most of the installs now.

Cool

i had mine fitted by someone other than the dealer who was coming down from the Midlands i believe who specialised in fitting a/c.

dealer said its about ½ a day or so to fit ?

its not a problem fitting it at anytime, you just order it and arrange to drop the car to your dealer.

paid £995 for mine. not cheap but cheaper than it was a couple of years ago !

Just to clarify my earlier post, no dealer that I am aware of fits a/c themselves, it is done by one of the aftermarket specialists such as Coolair contracted (probably) by IM. They go to the dealers premises to fit it. No UK car comes from Japan with a/c fitted - they are all done in the UK.

If a/c is fitted when the car is new it becomes part of the new car warranty (we know, Carolyn had a new a/c unit fitted under warranty on her MY00 when it was only a couple of months or so old).

If you have a/c done as a retrofit, not when the car is new, I suspect (but may be wrong) that it does not then form part of the IM/SUK warranty, but the warranty is separate on the a/c itself.
