Help - Weirdness at low revs
#1
Hello all,
I've a late '94 (MY95) WRX which has recently developed a strange problem... When pulling away or driving slowly the engine seems to momentarally cut out. This symptom is accompanied by a relay (?) (somewhere!) clicking and the car jerking. The problem occurs at around 1200 - 2000 RPM.
The car seems fine otherwise and so far these symptoms haven't occured at boost / high revs.
Does anyone have any idea what may be wrong or how to diagnose the problem?
Many thanks.
Norrie

I have noticed the same problem, I have a 94 WRX which has been service recently.I mentioned that the acceleration was not 100% through the rev range and so the spark plugs were changed at the service so I am thinking it might be the new plugs or possibly the coil packs.

Thanks for your reply Bruce

Bugger! I noticed the problem the evening after mine was serviced. I should have mentioned this. I went back to the garage where I know the owner pretty well. He said he had a look and disconnected the battery so I could reset the ECU in case something had been upset with the new stuff being fitted at service time. He drove the car and said it seemed fine. However... next morning the fault reappeared. I'm not sure about the relay clicking though. Have you experienced this?
Regards
Norrie.

I have noticed a quiet clicking from around the dash board, but this seems to happen when the accelerator is pressed lightly and happens again when the rpm drop to tick over.I pressumed this was normal so wasnt worried by it.

Yep me too. Alhough I haven't noticed it when the revs drop. With mine, when the click occurs its as if the engine momentaraly cuts out (or something). I've also noticed it when I'm moving away from a parking space and turn the steering wheel lots (which causes the revs to drop due to the power steering).
