My P1 is having problems finding the 600-800 RPM tickover at the moment..Especially when cold the engine hovers from 300 - 1200 RPM trying to hunt for the optimum revs also when take it out of gear the revs drop to 300 then back up to 1000 then finally settle at the 600-800 RPM level...any ideas?

MAF probably.

A search for "erratic idle" may have brought up one or two results.

If you are getting the check engine light and/or bad mpg, then lamda sensor.

If the car is stalling or close to stalling, but not the above then probably the MAF sensor.

just in case its not covered by the warranty (unlikely but ya never know) make sure to get a quote for the MAF SENSOR not the whole unit
