Which Oil?
#2
It has been discussed on this bbs a number of times that the best oils for the scoob although expensive are the Castrol RS 10W/60 or the Motul 300V 15W/50. If these are too expensive then the Mobil 15W/50 should be OK. Most of the techies recomend oil changes in between services too. Better protection for your bearings by doing in between oil and filter changes.

I would back up what WREXY has said as well. A little while ago, there was a post on here with an official statement from either IM or Subaru (can't remember which one). Basically it stated that for a UK car still in warranty then the recommended oil was Mobil-1 5w-40. For cars outside of warranty, then Mobil-1 Motorsport (15W-40). The only problem is that the 5w-40 oil is not available in this country (you can only get it from your dealer). The other alternative is goto Calais and pick it up at the Hypermarket (£18 for 4 litres if I remember rightly). Failing that, use any good quality synthetic oil (Silkolene etc) rated to the same viscosity as mentioned above. Steer clear of the 'normal' Mobil-1 sold in the UK as this is deemed too thin for the Scoob.

Leon,
The oils WREXY has mentioned are good oils, but as to the best?
The best oil to use is one with engine manufacturer's specifications. Problem is (with the Sube) that most oils readily available with these specs are of inferior quality to the oils mentioned above which makes things complicated.
If you are serious, then do some searching. Companies that make very high quality oils want you to know about it. They do this by publishing test results on their oils. They all do the tests, if they don't publish the results... there is probably a reason!
The link below should help you understand most of the data. Fortunately there are a bunch of tests done to american standards which means you can compare apples with apples.
