You'll probablt find that the one pictured will Whistle more than whoosh.

Wait til you get the car and hear it running standard, you might find the wastegate sounds better, i know a lot of people do.

Soobydoo, funny you should mention the whooosh sound as I quite like it too but when I enquired at Graham Goode racing for info he asked me how old I was and when I told him I was 47 he said these are the sort of things a 17 year old would want on. I was a little p!ssed off with that as like you I like the sound, actually thats why I didn't put a post on here because of all the potential backlash form all our budding Richard Burns and Petter people so I'm glad you did. Anyway Graham Goode did explain to me that my scoob used a recirculating type which didn't sound as loud as a dump to atmoshere type and that fitting the latter would interfere with the running of the car so it put me off a little. I have now changed from that car (STi Type R) to an STi 8 Type UK but don't know if this one has the same type of dump valve. Hope you can get some help on this topic, I would be interested too (may be 47 but 17 in my head).

Ady

I fitted a Blitz supersound blow off valve to my sti7, it vents to air and I love it. It makes a hell of a noise, if you get fed up you can always change it back!

I've got a my03 wrx with a bailey dv12 dump valve (one of the quieter ones). It doesnt do anything for the performance as far as i can tell, but between gearchanges at 3-4k revs it does feel a bit smoother. I've had it for about 3 months and it hasn't caused any ill running effects on my car so far.
As for people not likng them, its each to their own preferences really, but im happy with mine.

Got a Blitz SSDV, adjustable and a filter gauze can be fitted to trumpet which stops any debris entering the piston. The gauze does quieten the sound a little Got mine from JAMESWRX ( CLICKY ) for a very good price

I just fitted a GFB blow off valve from Graham Goode (£199) to my STI7, it has 10 points of adjustment from full re-circ to atmospheric venting.

Makes a good "tsssssh" noise when wound up, unlike some of the others that whistle a bit. And if you get fed up, turn it down!

I got a HKS SSQV after having a few Forge VTA D/V and I can honestly say they are well worth the money. You can change the way it sounds, by buying different inserts for it.

The noises it makes varies with the amount of boost at the time. If you have low boost and lift off then it's like a whoosh noise. With more boost the noise changes in pitch.

Oh and with a decat and induction kit, I get the odd pop back from the exhaust. With a bit of practise, you can pop back on demand

Thanks Phill

I got a HKS SSQV and it has been fitted today by my little mechanic chap (as I am a girl and have no idea about fitting these sort of things) to my Sti8.

He called me to say it is fitted and said it sounds "f**king amazing" and he and me are both well over 17.

Well I'm 33 and love it, so do my 4 daughters Even the Ex wife thinks it great. IMHO your never to old to have a D/V. They don't do "nothing" for performance, but nothing like getting people on the side of the road, jumping with the pop backs!!!

Hover around 3 k rpm, accelerate till the boost becomes a plus figure, i.e. 0.5 bar (7 to 8 PSi) then lift off slowly. Usually once the exhaust has warmed up, it pop like a good un!!!

After 6 months I still chuckle everytime it does it

I'm now on my second BOV dump-valve.

Had a Turbosmart Supersonic BOV which was as obnoxious as hell and made a piercing PSSSTTTT sound. Scared grannies from a mile away - not for the shy and retiring!

I now have a HKS SQV. What a change! Instead of a 'pssst' you get a lovely 'shuffling' sound that instantly makes you think 'rally car'. Sounds absolutely awesome and the perfect mix of loudness and tone!

Here it is -

Does the blitz BOV make a sort of "GUSH" noise rather than a "whistle" noise of the HKS?

No idle issues with both the HKS and Blitz on my MY99 I think you'll find these valves seal properly, others don't

Sold on the HKS...idea...

I assume the valve itself is universal?

I know the models differ according to the HKS site. If I was to buy from the US or 2nd hand I would have to make sure I got the right kit.

£300ish inc shipping in the UK sounds a bit steep... considering I've seen them in the states for £150!!!

Anyone ordered from the US - same kit?

Cheers

The valve is universal, however the mounts are different according to models you want to fit them too. I managed to buy a kit that fitted a Pre MY 99 or should I say the seller didn't tell me it was for the wrong MY. I got the extra bits from Jap Innovations and it fits lovely now

with the HKS unit- be careful adjusting the bolt at the rear... I tightened it a quarter turn too much and the bloody thing sheared!

got to get around to removing the bolt and replacing.. just haven't gotten around to it.

I honestly can't see what the adjustment screw does. It doesn't seem to change anything on mine ??
