Transmission back lash!
#1
Help wanted.
I have a 1999 Sti 4 which has over the last few months developed increasing transmission back lash (my definition)when comming off the throttle under sedate driving conditions. I guess it's also there when driving hard just that there is to much else going on at the time to notice. Prop shaft and drive shafts seem to be ok any other possiblities?

Could be the centre diff showing signs of excessive backlash, being as you say you have checked the rest. But dont forget, all 4wd systems do have a certain amount of transmission clonk, its inherrent freeplay as there are quite a few driven components in the drivetrain. What you may consider excess, others may consider "normal". If in doubt, get a garage to do a simple drive test for you to confirm one way or another.
Discussion is one thing on noises, but actually driving the vehicle can explain a great deal more.
