Question

My car MY00 has started to idle irratically, stalled a couple of times when coming to junctions. Seems slugish at top end and is generally pi**ing me off.
Please can anyone help???????????????????

If you search through 'Drivetrain' on 'MAF' you'll get a lot of info.
In short, the MY99/00 has a very weak MAF. It typically fails slowly, causing the AFR mixture to get weak. This causes a bad idle & can also cause the engine to eventually pop... so it's a good idea to get it sorted ASAP & drive like a wuss until then.
If your car's still in warantee, it should be changed for free; if not, it's about £70. Dealers will typically not be able to detect the thing going wrong - better diagnostic tools than they have available are needed. If they get irritable about it all, try to persuade them to just drop in a new MAF & see if it sorts it out - it should do straight away!
