Hi guys...

I seem to have a funny knocking sound coming from the engine/gearbox area, it only happends when the engine is hot and when i depress the clutch...

When driving in a constant gear theres a sort of rattly/knocking kind of sound coming from the gearbox area, then if i excellerate and change gear (engaging the clutch) it makes a chattering kind of sound, and it's not the DV, does'nt happen if i just come off power without changing gear...

It seems to only of been since my new AP clutch was fitted, could it just be a noisy Clutch realease bearing...

Any help much appriciated..

Cheers,

John.

Sounds highly likely to be a faulty release bearing, especially if it has always done it since cluch renewal. Noise should be apparent with your foot resting on the cluch through the gears but go away when your foot is removed as the release bearing should no longer be spinning due to a clearance between the clutch cover and the bearing.

hope this helps.

Funny this.

Mines has been the same since clutch change over 8 months ago.

Got bearing changed. Still the same.

Has caused no grief in action. However rattling is annoying!

Hoping to get to the bottom of this eventually?

Cool

Just finished fitting my AP organic yesterday, drove the car for the first time and all is TOTALLY silent. I kept the original (silent) STi bearing, just changed the Cover and plate. Did the noise show itself right away or appear gradually?
I found it hard to be sure the fork was located correctly in the bearing. Is the pedal action super smooth, mine feels like my wife's Yaris(!).
Hope you get it sorted, this kind of fault is really irritating...
Graham.

Cheers guy's some useful info there,

It only started doing it in the last week or so, about 2 weeks after the new clutch, i also used a STI release bearing as my93 WRX did'nt have one as standard...wanted to stop the judder..!!!

The clutch is nice and smooth and there is'nt really any performance loss...

Wierd...

Happy New Year..

Could it be the heat shields around the downpipe ( if std downpipe ) that are rattling after being disturbed?
The brackets rust off on the heatshields and they then rattle around ... perhaps more so when hot?

Just a thought

Dont think it is the heat shields mate, it's more of a clunky type noise than a metallic noise...
