Hope some of you guys/gals can help me out here.
Was washing the car on Saturday, hosing some of the salt and stuff from the underside of the rear wheel arches and noticed that the white paint was shining through and the underseal looks as if it's coming off.
It's a MY98, has this happened to anyone else?

You will find that when the car was originally built in Japan, the underside was sprayed with a protective wax coating.
When the car arrives in the Uk [for example], it then gets an under coating of black body protector "over the top of" the original stuff.
Thats why the warranty book says it has to be inspected every "alternate" year,so where this stuff "peels/flakes" off, it can be re treated, This is also why you can see the body colour when it does come off as the riginal stuff is almost clear in colour.
The factory does not put under body protection on all the cars it builds, same as every manufacturer, as different countries have different constraints and rules as to what protection [if any] is applied or not as the statement goes.

Must be something in the water at the moment. I hosed the inside of my arches at the weekend and a shed load came off. Never happened before.
More money then!

Thanks for your comments.
I have spoken to my friendly local Scooby dealer who says that applying some Waxoyl to the patches (when dry) would also do the job, but that maybe it isn't too critical.
Better safe than sorry, I say.
He did also say that they could re-apply the coating. For a charge NO DOUBT!
