When replacing shock absorbers - would i be right in assuming you replace a pair at a time?
My dads ST24 is in at the main dealers for its mot! Apparently one of the shocks is leaking, so they are replacing it on it's own! It seems a bit wrong to me. Are there any implications of doing this?

Usually down to the discretion of the individual reviewing the work & checking tolerance levels; of course if they are within then why replace a perfectly good unit?

See what your saying, but we're talking about 4 year old dampers!

I would change both, this is a big heavy, powerful car.

If god forbid it were to be in an accident because the handling was effected due to un-matched dampers then your dad would be wishing he had got the pair changed.

You do not say what end this is, I assume the front.

It is the same a brake discs and pads in my eyes, change them all in pairs. I would of thought that 4 year old dampers were coming to the end of their life anyway, seems like false economy to me, it will probably need doing soon anyway.

I would ALWAYS replace dampers in pairs. even if the other was fairly new. if the other one has failed what are the chances of the one that's left lasting very long?, Even if you can't notice it under normal braking uneven damping will have a terrible effect on emergency braking, just when you need it most!
