1stly all I can say is OMFG, me and the RA, we're in lurve ![Big Grin](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
She's an MY99 Type RA Sti V Ltd
Driving her back last night along the M4 doing the best part of a ton, pull up to a roundabout, in neutral, the cars idling but the needle starts jumping from less than 800 rpm to 1000 rpm and back again. Me finks "OMFG, is that the MAF". So the rest of the way home I drove her totally off boost and under 4,000 rpm. But she hasn't done it since???
I also sometimes get this wierd sort holding back occasionaly when very light throttle is applied in the RPM range of say 2,000 to 3,000 rpm. It's not like the 'hesitation' associated with a MY00, it feels sorta 'rev limitery' whereby the revs aren't increasing at all. This has happened about 3 times and at different rpms. If you give it a bit more 'welly' it gets over it and is fine.
There's not a knock sensor on there yet, I'll fit that tomorrow morning.
Couple of other things;
The tank was Optimax and Millers. At half full she's been topped up with Optimax and a full bottle of STP Power Booster. The guy I bought it off of said he'd tried STP and found the car ran really lumpy on it. Is this more likely to be the cause of the above?
I'm pretty much certain from the 'whistling' noise that the downpipe is blowing from where it mates to the back of the turbo, this is obviously gonna increase underbonnet temperatures, could this be causing part of my propbs?
Are these likely to be MAF related, particulalry the first 1, though I cant understand why it's only done it once. I'm almost certainly gonna change the MAF in the short term just to help with my paranoia, but I'll change this a bit sooner if other's responses indicate I should. Obviously with the knock link I'm gonna be armed with a bit more info.
Many Thanks guys.

Anyways, after a few months I took the DP off to wrap it and one of the nuts that hold it to the turbo had come almost completly off, it had been blowing like a bugger, confirmed by all the black on one side of the inside of the heat shield.
So, I fitted a new gasket, tightened up the bolts mega tight. Result, no whistling nor DV type noise.
Anyway, this one makes exactly the same noises as mine did before.

I have a full de-cat,and yes i definatley get turbo whistle when turbo is spooling up at about 2500 revs. I did'nt have this noise before the de-cat. I've asked the question at a reputable rolling road and they assure me this in normal and to be expected when de-cating.

Ok, cool. The whistling's not really of a concern though. And I'm gonna fit the Knocklink tomoz, so I'll have the IC off then, so for the sake of an extra ten minutes I'll whip the heat shield off and double check it.
It's the dancing rev needle that bothers me. Any suggestions?

Mine did this when the main earth on the inlet manifold was loose, after I'd been playing, worth a check.

Cheers Mark, I'll check that, weather dependent I'm gonna have the IC off tomorrow to fit the knock link anyways.
I'll probably swap the MAFs on the 2 Scoobs too.

Id get back on the Millers also. My cousin tried STP booster when he couldnt get NF and said it was really crap. We now both use nitrox street legal booster which he says is as good as NF, but a little easier to source. Good luck fixing the probs, Cal
