Get the head gaskets checked (if they think it's due to high water pressure I could have failed)

My rad started leaking and then the gaskets blew

In what way? Is there a hole in it?

which they ( whoever they are)
Would be interesting to know!

believe is due to high water pressure. is this likely ?
High water pressure? No. The pressure relief valve in the expansion tank cap will open if the pressure exceeds "normal" levels, allowing excess water out into the overflow system in the nearside front wing.

what else could it be ?
Could possibly be a rusted/stuck pressure relief valve, but that's very unlikely. If the rad has been holed, it could simply be because it's been weakened by corrosion or damaged by a stone. Could also be, as Dyney says, a failing head gasket.

It'd be much easier to comment if we knew exactly what was wrong with the rad!

thanks greasemonkey

will find out a little more about what has actually gone on the rad and why they ( again whether someone with some knowledge has said this or just my mate) think its water pressure.

thanks some good tips and things to check.

cheers
