Default my97 classic intermittent starting problems.

I have a very intermittent starting problem.
Most of the time the car will start first time with no problems whatsoever.

Every now and then the car fails to start first time.
When starting I do not touch the accelerator and let the car sort its self out.

Sometimes the car wont start and I have to press the accelerator (sometimes pump it) until it eventually struggles to start, there is a puff of smoke from the exhaust and the car starts and is fine.

Has anyone else had this problem, does anybody have any advice.

As I said, this does not happen very often and the car runs fine apart from this problem. I will be having a service in the next couple of weeks at GG and I will mention it to them.

Thanks for any help.

have something similar -

if i turn the key & let off as i usually do - coz it always starts the after the same cranking time , it sometimes doesn fire completely. then when i go to start it again - it takes alot of cranking. pumping loud pedal , to the floor ! sometimes does it !
i suspect that its just flooded , with all the cold start enrichment.
