Would the standard ECU cope if all I wanted to do was change the backbox and Airfilter?
(was thinking of a Pipercross Viper and Blitz NUR Spec backbox).

I ve been told to stay away from any cone style filter with out a re map, and its not worth the effort any way unless you are after 300+ bhp
go green, cost about £40 and you should have no problems

As the others say Jolley, you're safer avoiding cone filters. You'll get equally good performance from a good panel filter (STi, K&N, Green).
No problem for the ECU changing the backbox, but if you have a UK car, check with your dealer beforehand to make sure this won't prejudice your warranty.

Cheers chaps
Was going for the Viper filter because I can get them cheap, and they do sound gorgeous. Hmmmm.... 300bhp!!
Was thinking that I could simply swap the backbox over for any dealer issues, though I might save myself the hassle and go for an STi filter and the Prodrive backbox. Does the Prodrive backbox give a bit more of the Scooby noise that I crave?

Filter might be cheap, but if it causes an AFM misread, blows your engine and you then find the garage charge you for the new engine, it could work out very expensive indeed.
The Prodrive backbox does indeed give a bit more noise than the standard one, but not enough to get jarring on the motorway, which is a bugbear with many of the big bore pipes.
