Your cheapest way is to get a MY95/96 ecu as this fits straight in, then add a scoobyecu to that, this should bring you to around the 270-280bhp region, just ensure you change that oil first as ive already stated its a little thing for impreza (turbocharged) engines

Why buy a later ecu and put a scooby ecu in it , why not just put a scooby ecu straight in the earlier ecu , what gains are achieved by using the later ecu , also as above what are the bugs on the earlier ecu?

There's no need to buy a later ECU AND a ScoobyECU, the ScoobyECU uses the same map whatever it's plugged into, IIRC
And a ScoobyECU is a chip, just one that works well as opposed to some that don't.

But if you are fitting a scooby ecu this will eliminate it any way as you are running on the scooby ecu map won't it ? I understand the later ecu has more power in standard form but people above are on about buying a later ecu and then putting a scooby ecu in it what is wrong with the early ecu with a scooby ecu chip in it ? I have the later set up and have not noticed any problems just wondered what the benifit of using the later ecu with a scooby ecu chip would be ?
thanks

We know it is a chip but it aint a super chip that sells for 400 quid and is only worth a fiver in parts.
The scoobyecu is in a different league......

I have a spare scoobyecu (switched to a link) with 2 maps/"chips" Scott did mine early on and it was a bit of a test.
If your interested make me an other and I might part with it.

95/96 ECU's are happier running over 16psi, hence why I always set the 92-94 ECU's to run 15.5psi and offered the option of setting 95/96 ECU's to 16.5psi.
I think the input circuit for the Map sensor may of been tweeked on the later ECU to make it more reliable.
If you try to run 16psi of more on the earlier ECU they tend to fuel-cut despite the fuel-cut level being set high.
The standard 2bar map sensor doesn't help matters as it is maxing out and becoming un-linear at the high end.
