Default MY99/00 ECU REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

I'm hopefully going to replace my ECU soon with a TEK2 but being an old worry guts and ex-Telecomms Tech I wanted some advice:

1)Is it wise to wear an earthed wrist strap when removing /fitting the ECU?
(couldn't do any harm?)

2)Any other precaution such as disconnecting the battery first worthwhile?

3)I believe the MY99/00 ECU does not need the keys reprogrammed to match the ECU (unlike my old MY97) Am I correct?

Cheers,John

John,
simple job, even for a nonce like me!
Pull the passengers side carpet backwards from the front of the car, you'll see a tin plate with 3 bolts and one nut (I think) remove them, and remove the plate, then you'll see the ecu covered with a thin piece of plastic, remove that too, then undo the final two bolts, then simply unplug the ecu and fit the new one, bolts back in and away you go.
Don't worry about the battery!

Don't want a my00 ecu to get re-programmed do you, I have one in the for sale section!!

Ron.

I've done the same thing with a MY99 ECU into MY00 and it just works no problem.

Cheers

No John, it doesn't work immediately after fitting the new ECU, you need to start it first.

Very funny greasemonkey ;-) I think I'm convinced the keys don't need reprogramming now--thanks for all your replies--Sorry Ron don't need a spare ECU at the moment.
Cheers,John
